Helin Serindağ painting at her easel in the studio

Biography

Helin Cansu Serindağ (b. 1990) studied at Üsküdar American Academy and Acıbadem University School of Medicine, and completed her neurology residency at Prof. Dr. Mazhar Osman Mental Health and Neurological Diseases Hospital. Leaving her academic and clinical career in medicine behind, she settled in the Aegean mountains and has worked as an independent painter since 2020.

Capturing unique moments of life in her figurative oil paintings, Serindağ does not confine her work to a single theme; instead she draws on the wounds that have left their mark on her life. Whether a personal hardship or a social and political issue, at the heart of her process lies filtering negativity and trauma through artistic discipline and reproducing it in aesthetic form. Blending realism with vivid colour, and at times allowing surreal touches and playful breaks in perspective, she invites the viewer beyond habitual perception.

Her series “Anatomy in a Different Way” (2022–2024), the 2024 exhibition “Censor Free Zone”, and the “Reconstruction” series, which centres on her brain surgery, are among the clearest examples of this transformative approach. Serindağ continues to live and work in her studio in the Aegean.
